Introduction

Friends of Hopital Albert Schweitzer has been operating the Haiti Timber Re-Introduction Project since 2005. Based in Deschapelles, Haiti on the Hopital Albert Schweitzer campus, this program conducts community-based education, outreach, and reforestation activities in over 50 surrounding communities. It has a staff of 10, plus support staff. English will be important for communicating with the parent organization and donors, but Kreyol is the language of work.


Fonctions

The Assistant Project Manager will assist the Project Manager oversee HTRIP’s day-to-day activities in Haiti and serve in several roles that are essential to the proper functioning of the project, but which cannot be filled except by someone on the ground, including the core responsibilities to:

• Provide HTRIP’s experienced and largely self-sufficient Haitian staff with supervision and administrative (i.e.transportation schedules) and technical support(i.e. basic computer services);
• Provide ideas and techniques to advance HTRIP’s agroforestry goals;
• Organize monthly and yearly project planning (with input from the Project Manager);
• Assist with spending control and recording;
• Coordinate with other HASprograms and with other wings of itsSCI division;and
• Manage HTRIP’s paper and electronic databases.


Qualifications réquises

Any candidate for the Assistant Project Manager position must possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably with a major or specialization related to the position (i.e. agronomy, environmental science, ecology, plant biology, geography, public health/nutrition, economics);
• Fluency in Haitian Creole and Proficiency inEnglish (written, oral);
• Competency in basic accounting and MS Office (Excel, Word) software;
• A strong facility in non-confrontational problem-solving strategies; and
• A willingness to live full-time on the HAS campus.


Conditions particulières

In addition to these core responsibilities, the Assistant Project Manager will occasionally be expected to:

• Provide research support for the Project Manager;
• Perform basic materials management tasks (i.e. acquisitions, distribution and inventory);
• Orchestrate small food-distribution programs in inaccessible areas;
• Supervise the planning and production of large events (for 800+ people);
• Collaborate with Haitian and foreign institutions (i.e. Yale School of Forestry);
• Coordinate and provide support for interns from US and Haitian universities; and
• Contribute to long-term (i.e. 5+ years) project planning and goal-setting


Conditions de travail

The Assistant Project Manager will live and work in Deschappelles, Haiti (dept. de l’Artibonite) as a consultant employed by the Friends of HAS, and for his or her services, he or she will receive or have access to:

• A monthly salary commensurate with qualifications;
• Housing provided on the HAS campus;
• Basic institutional and administrative support from HAS;
• Access to basic medical services at HAS
