Introduction

Summits Education is a Boston-based non-governmental organization operating a network of 40 primary schools comprising approximately 10,000 students and 350 educators in the Central Plateau (Haiti). We’re working in partnership with local communities and governmental entities to ensure that schools meet the needs of the whole child, promoting a school environment where each student is healthy, safe, engaged, challenged, and supported.
Summits Education is seeking an Deputy Pedagogical Manager with extensive experience especially in the rural areas of Haiti to oversee and enforce the capacity of eleven (11) Pedagogical Consultants (CPs) that coaches on a regular basis teachers and principals in forty schools. We have received funding to improve literacy and quality education in the Central region and Artibonite, by implementing the Strong Beginnings program in a four-year partnership with University of Notre Dame-Indiana starting in 2020 and a Whole Child Approach in partnership with Kellogg Foundation.
The Deputy Pedagogical Manager will work closely with the Pedagogical Manager and/or the Academic Consultant to provide sound and relevant technical advice on Summits’ approach to support the CPs in their daily duties. S/he will serve as the lead advisor and supervisors of the pedagogical staff in collaboration with the Pedagogical Manager. Part of his/her responsibility include supporting the development and implementation of a comprehensive academic model that can serve the schools within the network and develop a strategic plan that will help meet Summits’ goals. For internal coordination purposes s/he will maintain ongoing contact from Summits Senior Management Team to the community leaders. The period of the contract will be 12 months with option for renewal.


Fonctions

RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Project Management & Coordination
Coordinate, supervise and report on all activities of the pedagogical staff of Summits Education (280 Teachers, 40 Principals, 39 Community leaders CL, 39 guardians, 8 Pedagogical Consultants and 2 Education Coordinators)
Coordinate, supervise and report on the implementation of literacy program under Strong Beginnings, and the Whole Child Approach with different partners such as Digital Promise, CCH, Caris Foundation, Zanmi Lasante, Kore Lakay etc.;
Collaborate with Senior Management Team to develop a cost-effective literacy and contents remediation plan;
Aid in the development of compelling grants and write reports as needed in collaboration with the Pedagogical Manager and the Director of Programs;
Attend meetings/conferences as needed related to Summits Education projects.

B. Pedagogical staff capacity building
Supervise the pedagogic consultants training, coaching, and observation as well as monitor their field work daily;
In collaboration with the Pedagogic Director develop report template for the CPs, retrieve reports monthly, monitor progress and advise on ways to address ongoing needs;
In collaboration with the Pedagogical Manager & the Academic Consultant, provide mentoring and training for pedagogic consultants to improve their technical and practical skills in training, coaching, and observation;
Oversee training to Summits’ school-based pedagogical staff in the area of literacy, French, Creole and Math to improving instructional practices in schools in collaboration with the Academic Consultant;
Assure that effective capacity building of competencies to pedagogical staff to prepare them to work independently;
Aid the school directors in drafting their success contract;
Provide mentoring and training to staff about progressions and evaluations;
Collaborate with Senior Management Team to develop professional capacity of pedagogic consultants, principals, school founders and teachers;
Aid in implementing the content remediation plan for pedagogical staff and propose strategies to develop reading culture in Summits’ schools and communities with the pedagogic director;
Supervise and report on all hours of trainings delivered to the pedagogical staff of Summits Education;
Perform unannounced field visits regularly.
Coordinate with the different department the effective implementation of the activities

C. Aid in the development of Summits Academic Model
Collaborate with the Academic Consultant to develop a realistic and sustainable academic model that reflect Summits mission and vision;
Collaborate with the Pedagogical Manager a reliable methodology to evaluate the competencies of the teachers and principals and to recruit new ones in collaboration with the Academic Consultant;
Collaborate a cost-effective options that improves teachers’ performance and supports proper achievement of the organization’s goals;
Propose adequate tools for schools’ diagnostic according to the priorities set by SUMMITS;
Collaborate with Summits pedagogic partners and advise as needed to ensure that they reinforce SUMMITS values;


Qualifications réquises

REQUIREMENTS
Master’s Degree preferred, and Bachelor’s in related fields
Expertise in teacher training and curriculum development
Experience in developing grants and reports
Excellent communication, problem-solving and mentoring skills
Take initiative to proactively problem solve
Extensive knowledge of education in Haiti’s context
Ability to work under pressure
Ability to work alone or in team
Willing to walk or hike to schools in remote areas
Fluency in Creole, French & English preferred
