Introduction

Summits Education is a Boston-based non-governmental organization operating a network of 40 primary schools comprised of approximately 10,000 students and 400 educators in the Central Plateau (Haiti). Most families in the Central Plateau are subsistence farmers, and live on less than $2 dollars per day. We’re working in partnership with local communities and governmental entities to ensure that schools meet the needs of the whole child, promoting a school environment where each student is healthy, safe, engaged, challenged, and supported.

Summits Education is seeking a dedicated, charismatic and passionate professional to lead the organization into its next phase of growth. The Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for execution of Summits’ mission, and will play a critical role in growing and operationalizing the organization’s work domestically and abroad. The ED will have primary responsibility for fundraising, financial and organizational management and will work in close partnership with the board and with an exceptional team to build on the success the organization has seen since its founding.

Qualifications Requises

▪ Bachelor’s Degree required and Master in related field preferred
▪ At least five years of experience as an accountable driver of increased impact in ambitious organizations in fields that demonstrate a commitment to the mission
▪ Proven track record of success with identifying, qualifying and cultivating donor and foundation relationships
▪ Energized by the challenge of building an organization and enhancing existing programs to meet the needs of students and teachers in Haiti
▪ Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse group of constituents and present a compelling case for organizational support
▪ Excellent ability to respond to challenges, deal with last minute issues and resolve problems under pressure
▪ Strong operational orientation with experience in management; able to juggle multiple priorities, projects and deadlines; ability to hire, lead and support a dedicated and passionate team
▪ Ability to travel internationally multiple times a year and spending extensive time in the Central Plateau
▪ Language: Working knowledge of Creole, French and English to be developed

II. RESPONSIBILITIES



A. Fundraising, Advocacy and Board Development (50% of Level of Effort):

▪ Work closely with Board of Directors and Senior Management Team to develop a strategic fundraising plan that will ensure that the organization meets its fundraising and expansion goals;

▪ Identify and cultivate a variety of donors including individuals, foundations, and corporate donors;

▪ Research new grant opportunities, oversee grant development, and cultivate relationships with donors and stakeholders;

▪ In collaboration with the Chair of the board of Directors, recruit, retain and engage Board of Directors;

▪ Identify ways to utilize Board support for programmatic and fundraising growth;

▪ Serve as a primary spokesperson for Summits Education;

▪ Develop opportunities to raise the organization’s profile through ongoing networking, cultivation of speaking engagements, interaction with community and business leaders, corporate and foundation representatives and academic leaders;



B. Program, Financial and Operational Management (40% of Level of Effort):

▪ In partnership with Senior Management Team, oversee existing, and develop new, strategies to further enhance all of the organization's programs and initiatives, ensuring consistency with Summits’ mission, philosophy, objectives, and overall strategic vision;

▪ Collaborate with Senior Management Team to revise/update Strategic Plan and define an organizational identity;

▪ Support the team in the development of optimal internal communication patterns among staff keeping inclusivity and transparency as cornerstones;

▪ Support the team in the development of accountability procedures and performance measures (for successful implementation of Summits’ different projects).

▪ Hire, supervise and support a staff of high-performing and deeply committed individuals;

▪ Maintain a climate that attracts and motivates a diverse staff, and ensure that effective human capital management practices are in place;

▪ Oversee the organization’s policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures.



C. Professional Development and Team Strengthening (10% of Level of Effort)

▪ Collaborate with Senior Management Team to create an organizational culture and a sense of belonging;

▪ Propose strategies to ensure that Summits develops its resources effectively to reach the desired level of excellence;

▪ Collaborate with Senior Management Team to implement a Professional Development plan for Summits employees;

▪ Collaborate with Senior Management Team for improved staff performance to achieve the organization’s goals, and propose cost-effective options that improves performance and supports proper achievement of the organization’s goals;

▪ Lead capacity strengthening efforts and promote teamwork, inclusivity, respect, transparency, and trust.
