Introduction

The REA Team Member will support social and cultural assessment, workshop facilitation and implementation efforts of a highly participatory approach to watershed assessment and planning. Implementation of Participatory Planning for Resilient Productive Landscapes that includes (i) site selection assessment for four watersheds in Nippes department (ii) rapid assessment of 16 micro-catchments within these four watersheds, and (iii) organization and facilitation of two participatory workshops that bring watershed specialists together with local stakeholders in targeted micro-catchments. The rapid assessment phase includes evaluation of social, cultural and agroforestry aspects of targeted micro-catchments including grassroots organizations, farm systems, gender issues in natural resource management, and local governance of natural resources. Organization of stakeholder workshops requires community outreach and workshop planning and facilitation.


Fonctions

1. Essential Functions
• Identify local production systems, agriculture, animal husbandry, agroforestry, tree crops
• Inventory non-farm employment
• Inventory local commerce, market intermediaries, market networks, value chains
• Assess and tenure arrangements, public and private land, large and small holders, renters and sharecroppers.
• Document agricultural calendar, including rainy seasons, planting and harvest cycle of major crops
• Identify primary cash crops
• Identify important food crops for local consumption
• Analayze income generation and access to food during the slack season for agriculture
• Assesss access to credit, including agricultural lending
• Elicit agricultural concerns of local farmers, including topics such as plant pathologies, access to markets, access to agricultural inputs, changing agricultural strategies
• Document historical shifts in local crop patterns and agricultural strategies
• Support workshop planning together with local stakeholders and grassroots leaders
• Support workshop implementation, including organization and moderation of small discussion groups and small group presentation of findings.


Qualifications Requises

• A university degree in Agronomy or related field
• Field experience with farmers and grassroots organizations
• Work experience with gender related to livelihoods, value chains, field-based projects in rural areas.
• Background of experience with data collection, qualitative interviews, and field observations.
• Demonstrated ability to handle variety of activities with an attention to detail and quality.
• Demonstrate ability to work as an effective team member in a complex and fast paced environment.
• Demonstrate ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders and beneficiaries.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Fluency in French and Haitian Creole is required
