Mercy Corps seeks to encourage development and improvement of the long-term relationships between the community and police forces, to offer hope to youth and young adults, as purpose and economic dignity that they need and are seeking. This is accomplished through a combination of projects and action-based research led by community, community projects aiming to improve security, capacity-building to support constructive dialog on delicate subjects, basic capacity strengthening and improved access to available economic opportunities.
Ann Viv Ansamn is a 26-month program with the objective of increasing community security and reducing violence. The program will work in vulnerable neighborhoods in urban, peri-urban and rural zones in Port-Au-Prince, Carrefour-Feuilles, Arcahaie and Canaan. The project addresses two key factors linked to community violence: 1) the lack of youth and young adult influence and input in decisions impacting their community and 2) the lack of social and economic opportunities that offer a viable alternative to crime and violence. The Ann Viv Ansamn program is made up of multiple components such as: Life Skills training, restorative justice techniques, tutoring and literacy support, entrepreneurship and business management skills development, etc
