Introduction
About Haiti HOME
Haiti HOME OWNERSHIP AND MORTGAGE EXPANSION (HAITI HOME) is a three year activity funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to catalyze the provision of affordable housing finance products and infrastructure in Haiti. It is being implemented by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) in partnership with Habitat for Humanity International and the Affordable Housing
Institute.
WOCCU’s HOME program launched the “HOME Facility” fund to enable innovative uses of capital to be deployed in ways that have powerful benefits because they address gaps, disruptions, weaknesses, or inefficiencies in Haiti’s delivery of either affordable homes or affordable housing financing. The program works on both the supply and demand side of the housing value chain. Through HOME Facility fund incentives, WOCCU is mobilizing the Haitian financial sector and property developers toward a larger market for housing finance products and environmentally sustainable infrastructure.
About EDGE
In order to ensure that projects supported by HOME meet high environmental standards, HOME has teamed up with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the US Green Building Council to enable partner developers to become EDGE certified. HOME will thus provide further support to the developer through technical assistance in meeting EDGE standards and provide incentives to cover the incremental costs of achieving the green building benchmark. By doing so, HOME will promote green building in Haiti without increasing the sales price of the home to the public.
The EDGE tool is specifically tailored to emerging countries and has developed easily implementable standards for Haiti which will enable developers to achieve a green building certification without much difficulty. The EDGE certification includes a preliminary certificate at the end of the design audit, and final certification after a construction audit. More info in EDGE: https://www.edgebuildings.com/
To this effect, WOCCU is seeking to hire a Green Building Architect on a contractual basis to perform the duties specified below:
