J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO) evolved as an organization since its inception in January 2010, transitioning from an emergency to a development context. Hence, the need for J/P HRO’s structure to adapt accordingly in order to support new monitoring and reporting needs, as well as efficiency imperatives. J/P HRO is seeking for: One (1) Communications Manager based in its office in Pétion-Ville, Haiti.
Fonctions
The communications Manager/PaP will based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and works with strong team in Port-au-Prince and Los Angeles, CA, USA, to actively help fulfill the vision, mission, goal and activities of the J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO) to save lives and rebuild communities through sustainable programs in the Pétion-Ville Camp and beyond. As J/P HRO is new organization, formed in the aftermath of the January 12, 2010 earthquake, he/she is primarily responsible for managing the communications Department in PAP with coordination, collaboration and support of the Director of Communications.
The Communications Manager/PaP will report to the SVP for Haiti Operations and the Director of Communications, and will actively support his/her efforts to implement a long-term, comprehensive media and communications strategy to raise the organizational profile. The Communications Manager will coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Communications Department in Haiti and facilitate the effective and efficient delivery of all internal and external, visual and written communications materials. She/he will ensure the successful communication of the work J/P HRO is doing in Haiti. This includes content development for and management of J/P HRO website and social media, alongside developing the materials needed to support a robust international and national/local media outreach plan, while forging and strengthening media relationships in Haiti. The Communications Manager/PaP will be well versed in the development of multi-media content , media and public relations, and preferably have experience in media production.
The communications Manager will ensure the efficient operation of in-country Communications Department, implement effective workflow, and coordinate, develop and edit content for all external and internal Communications Department outputs, while liaising with all SVPs, Director of Communications, Director of Programs and Senior Management and team Managers as required.
With the support of the Director of Communications, the Communications Manager/PaP manages three Port-au-Prince based staff: Senior Communications Officer/Visual Asset Development, Communications Officer/Video, and Communications Department. She/he will assist with the collaboration with the independent PR firm engaged by J/P HRO (ID-PR) and the coordination of the approval and signoff process, which lies with the Executive Director. The Communications Manager reports directly to the SVP of Haiti Operations.
General Responsibilities:
• Support the Director of Communications for the development and successful implementation of a broad-reaching, comprehensive and long-term communications strategy;
• Manage J/P HRO’s media assets and ensure the protocols and proper implementation of digital asset management (DAM);
• Collaborate and coordinate with the Director of Communications to direct, manage and maintain effective workflow in the Communications Department in PAP;
• Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with all department and teams in the Haiti country program;
• Develop content for internal and external communications efforts. This includes J/P HRO’s website, social media, internal and external newsletters, fact sheets, press kits, etc.;
• Produce original and compelling multimedia content for online platforms and organization communication need;
• Ensure the proper dissemination of all internal and external communications materials;
• Develop and strengthen all Haitian media contacts, ensure ongoing and positive engagement of all press contacts;
• Assist in the coordination and planning of media and VIP visits and press events.
Qualifications Requises
• Have a minimum of four years relevant work experience, in communications, journalism, media and/or public relations, or multi-media production;
• Significant communications experience, including field experience in the development or emergency response context, that includes a blend of advocacy, media production and media and/or public relations;
• Experience working with coordination among of a broad array stakeholders;
• Experience in successfully and efficiently coordinating the delivery of key outputs and activities, alongside the implementation communications strategies;
• Excellent writing/editing and verbal communications skills, AP style editing experience preferred;
• Relevant computer and software and skills; office, Final Cut Pro X, Photoshop. Familiarity with graphic design software and other related products such as Photo Mechanic is desirable;
