Introduction

An International Non-Governmental Organization is seeking a Press Officer to serve as the main point of contact for Haitian press and to manage media relations activities at the field level to ensure a positive image of the organization brand in Haiti. S/he will report directly to the Country Director and will also work in close collaboration with the Communications staff overseas and Haiti.


Fonctions

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with Haitian media outlets.
• Help to determine which types of news stories, videos, factsheets, photos and other content will resonate with a Haitian audience and work with Communications staff in Haiti and abroad to develop.
• Pro-actively pitch the organization programs, staff and events to Haitian media outlets. This includes writing, editing and distributing press releases and audio-visual material.
• Coordinate the organization participation in Haitian press conferences, media tours and other events.
• Field and triage inquiries from Haitian media outlets and maintain lists of Haitian media outlets and track all media interactions in a log.
• Identify, train and coach the staff in Haiti to serve as spokespeople with Haitian press.
• Highlight news trends related to the organization activities in Haiti in order to identify opportunities for positive news coverage and to mitigate potential negative press. This includes monitoring news trends in Haitian press outlets and tracking/reporting the organization mentions.
• Work with the Communications staff in Haiti and abroad to liaise with other key Communications staff and external partners in Haiti to leverage their media relationships and to ensure effective coordination and collaboration.
• Serve as Creole/French-speaking spokesperson when needed.
• Translate articles, press releases, facts sheets and other content from English/French into French/Creole when needed.
• Provide social media support in French and Creole when needed.


Qualifications Requises

• Baccaulerat Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field.
• Fluent in French, English and Creole.
• More than 10 years’ experience in a media relations role at an NGO in Haiti.
• Established network of Haitian press contacts.
• Proven track record garnering positive press coverage.
• Proven organizational and multi-tasking skills to plan and prioritize work to meet tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with the NGOs network desired.
• Knowledge of social media a plus.
• Photography/videography experiences a plus.
