Introduction
The Curriculum Developer will be responsible for the development of the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) to meet the needs of out-of-school children and youth ages 12-18, including (1) Haitian Creole literacy, (2) French conversation and literacy, (3) numeracy and (4) life skills and pre-employability skills. Numeracy should integrate life skills and pre-employability skills, and other content as appropriate. The Curriculum Developer will be responsible for developing an innovative ALP curriculum designed based on international best practices as well as teaching and learning materials for each ALP level, placement tools and exit assessments, and student and teacher kits for each ALP level. The curriculum development duties will include the elaboration of the curriculum itself utilizing a team of curriculum developers at MENFP, the development teaching materials for instructors and learning materials for students, as well as the design of the teacher training program to deliver the ALP.
Fonctions
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct a literature review of past and current programs that have provided accelerated learning opportunities for out-of-school children and youth to identify lessons learned, both in Haiti and internationally. Submit a report on best practices, innovative ideas and other relevant information that could be incorporated in the ALP design.
2. Review MENFP’s teacher and student materials as well as training materials that have been developed for its accelerated learning program.
3. Work with the MENFP to develop and finalize content to be included in the ALP and design of the approach for delivering grades 1-9 content.
4. Work with MENFP to develop an ALP program framework that informs the design of the ALP curriculum and includes the scope and sequence of each subject.
5. Lead the validation process of the curriculum including consultation with teachers and students who will use the ALP program, the subsequent revisions of the draft curriculum, and the process of approval within the MENFP.
6. Develop both student and teacher materials for the ALP, in close collaboration with the MENFP.
7. Develop placement tools that assesses knowledge of incoming students to determine the level at which they need to be placed in the ALP as well as exit assessments for each ALP level to be administered by teachers to students upon completion of each level, at the end of each school year.
8. Collaborate on the design of the teacher training program in order to deliver the newly designed ALP.
Qualifications Requises
• A minimum of a Master’s degree in a field relevant to curriculum development and teacher training;
• At least eight years of experience in curriculum and materials development for Haitian students;
• Expertise in interdisciplinary learning approach for curriculum development and good knowledge of life skills and employability skills;
• Expertise in pedagogy of reading or mathematics;
• Knowledge of linguistics of Haitian Creole;
• Fluency in French and Haitian Creole is required; English preferred.
• Haitian resident is highly preferred.
