Introduction
This is a hands-on position, performing complex journal entries, reconciliations, and accounting procedures for a modern electric utility serving approximately 10,000 consumers and employing 65 persons. The supervisor will be supported by a staff accountant, and payroll and accounts payable personnel. The position will interface with the customer service and billing department, the warehouse, the generating plant, construction personnel, and senior management.
Fonctions
The accounting function includes booking monthly billing for services, reconciling cash receipts, accounts payable, payroll, including payroll taxes, a warehouse and inventory system, a construction and fixed asset system, and tracking fuel acquisition and usage. The position supports statistical and data production for senior management and international advisors reporting to the Government of Haiti, USAID, and other stakeholders.
The position is mentored on-site by an international accounting advisor, and will be trained in accounting procedures for a utility per international standards. It is anticipated new software will be installed. The accounting supervisor will have a significant role in migrating and balancing data during implementation.
The successful candidate should have demonstrated ability to perform complex reconciliations of cash and data, and meeting reporting deadlines. Experience with detailed responses to audit requests for data is valued. Accuracy, timeliness and organizational skills are essential.
Qualifications Requises
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting
- Bachelor Degree in accounting (MBA preferred)
- Fluent in French and Creole, spoken and written
- Fluent in English, spoken and written
- 10 years progressively responsible experience in accounting to include
o Month and year end close
o Accrual accounting
o Preparation for and response to audit data requests
o Haitian payroll taxes
- Experience with accounting software, and multiple sub-ledger modules (QuickBooks a plus)
o Billing/Accounts Receivable
o Accounts Payable
o Warehouse/Inventory
o General Ledger
o Payroll
o Capitalizing Fixed Assets
- 5 years’ experience supervising personnel in accounting activities with demonstrated ability to lead a team
- Aptitude to receive training and instruction in electric utility accounting
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office software
- Ability to integrate technical data and accounting data for statistical analysis
Conditions particulières
It is preferred the candidate will live within the utility service area which currently is bounded generally by Limonade, Trou du Nord, and Terrier Rouge in Nord East, Haiti.
Preferred but not required:
- Experience in utility accounting
- Experience in auditing
- Mentoring skills to inspire, lead, and encourage young accountants and clerks
Skills in database analysis
