Introduction

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is a United States based not-for-profit organization which is registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO). UMCOR has a long operational history in Haiti. Across all its programming (livelihoods; water, sanitation and hygiene; and shelter and reconstruction), UMCOR Haiti supports community engagement. This involves extensive community-based consultation and participation as well as close coordination among project partners including the Government of Haiti (GoH) and donor partners. The overarching objective of UMCOR Haiti’s efforts is to support the Government of Haiti (GoH) in implementing sustainable post-earthquake reconstruction and development. The UMCOR Haiti Strategy which covers the period 2013-2017 takes into account Haiti’s development challenges pre-earthquake yet focuses on reconstruction and projects adequate for reconstruction given the changes in context, content, and focus of the Government of Haiti’s (GoH) “Build Back Better” agenda.
The purpose of UMCOR’s Haiti mission is to provide emergency response, early recovery and transitional development assistance in the affected regions of Haiti. The Driver works under the Logistic Manager to advance program operations.


Fonctions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Driver supports the team with the highest integrity in daily transport and program support. This includes two central duty stations: Delmas and Pacot and the availability to work both evenings and weekends. This position requires knowledge of the roads and road regulations of Haiti, knowledge of safety procedures and basic vehicle maintenance, attention to detail, commitment and willingness to support the programming mission of UMCOR, punctuality, teamwork, initiative, and responsiveness.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

TRANSPORT IN SUPPORT OF PROGRAMS

• Drive the office’s vehicles by respecting the rules of security and the actual traffic law.
• Punctuality, accountability and reliability: Follow drivers schedule reporting to duty on time and returning from routine stops on time.
• Prepare incident reports in case of any accidents
• In-depth knowledge of major city routes of Port-au-Prince and around as well provinces
• Ensure that updated registration and insurance paper is available in the vehicle at all times
• Perform business deliveries as needed
• Record and maintain vehicle movement log sheet.
VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND UPKEEP

• Maintain basic vehicle care: notifying manager of needed oil, gas, tires etc.
• Knowledge of basic mechanical functions (verifying oil, water battery, brake, tire, etc) and inform supervisor of any mechanical problems and/or need for repairs.
• Maintain a daily log sheet of the vehicles (daily mileage, gas consummation etc)
• Ensure the interior and exterior cleanliness of the vehicle

Any other official duties as assigned by the Driver Supervisor.





Qualifications Requises

• Certified drivers license and proven years of experience as a safe and reliable driver.
• Ability to monitor basic vehicle maintenance, such as oil and gas levels and ability to change a tire and perform other routine vehicle needs.
• Knowledge of basic road safety procedures.
• Must be willing to take initiative, work as a member of a team, adhere to the policies and procedures of UMCOR, and report to either duty station (Pacot or Delmas) as needed.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Previous experience with international organizations is preferred.
• Previous experience working with international staff as a part of a diverse team is preferred.
• Ability to understand and use basic English is preferred.
