Introduction

Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit organization whose mission is to address urgent housing needs in our communities, nation and world. Habitat for Humanity regional office in Haiti has been engaged in the field for more than 30 years providing housing services to the people in need. Four years after the earthquake Habitat for Humanity Haiti has provided transitional and upgradable shelters to more than 4,000 families, has repaired and rehabilitated more than 525 houses, has conducted more than 12,000 damage assessments and has built 300 permanent core houses. More than 6,600 Haitians have been trained through Habitat Haiti’s main offices and Habitat Resource Centers and more than 700 Haitians have found job opportunities. Habitat for Humanity Haiti has served overall 50,000 families in Haiti.

Habitat for Humanity Haiti is looking for experienced field engineers for a new project based in the Port au Prince area. The field engineer who works under the supervision of the Lead Engineer and the Habitat Resource Center Project Manager is in charge of supervising construction interventions in the field and conducting housing assessments / technical assistance to families and organizations. Other functions will be assigned based on project needs. We are looking for energetic individuals with previous experience working with communities in neighborhood rehabilitation programs.


Fonctions

- Supervise construction interventions in the field directly or through service providers
- Participate in housing assessment projects aimed at developing technical assistance and training programs
- Assist in the implementation and quality control of design solutions in the field, both in-house and developed by partners or service providers
- Assist the Lead Engineer in the selection of service providers and assessment of their capacity to implement technical solutions
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) / perform quantity surveying and update them throughout the design and implementation process
- Manage construction schedules and project deliverable milestones
- Manage construction interventions, including, but not limited to: answering Requests for Information / Clarification, producing site visit reports
- Prepare meeting and other reports to communicate and summarize status of projects
- Interface with other partners or services providers
- Identify potential challenges or problems, coordinate technical solutions, and facilitate solutions involving partner organizations or outside service providers
- Liaise with a cross-functional team of subject matter experts to ensure that holistic project / program interventions achieve synergy and coordination
- Participate in program design initiatives to bring services to target populations in an impactful, scalable and sustainable manner
- Participate in the consolidation of identifying lessons and knowledge to contribute towards learning initiatives
- Any other tasks assigned by the Lead Engineer or the Habitat Resource Center Project Manager.


Qualifications Requises

- Degree in civil or structural engineering from a recognized university
- Minimum 5 year experience in the field of construction supervision
- Excellent knowledge of the context of construction in Haiti
- Familiarity with owner-driven reconstruction methods and community development initiatives (desirable)
- Familiarity with international and local building code standards
- Knowledge of Project Management application (Microsoft Project)
- Knowledge of the community based contracting process.
- Fluency in French and Haitian Creole (English desirable)
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage several projects simultaneously
- Proactive in identifying potential issues and developing solutions
- Proficiency with Internet, Excel, Microsoft word and other office applications
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to humanitarian standards and principles.
