Introduction

The PADF is seeking a Director of Agricultural Research for a USAID-funded Agriculture Research and Development project in Haiti.


Fonctions

Position Summary: The Director of Research will provide overall leadership and technical direction for the agricultural research component of a multi-year, multi-million dollar program to strengthen the Haitian Ministry of Agriculture. S/he will focus on strengthening the ability of the Haitian Ministry of Agriculture to design, develop, fund and monitor a range of research priorities. This could include basic grains, high value horticulture, tissue culture, etc. and the concomitant extension practices to ensure farmer access and uptake of improved techniques.


Qualifications Requises


• Advanced degree in Agriculture Science, Agriculture Economics, Agricultural Extension/Education, Agribusiness, Veterinary Medicine or similar.
• Minimum of ten years of experience in supporting agricultural research within universities, specialized research institutions, the CGIAR network, the public sector, or on projects of a similar nature, including demonstrated ability to work with and strengthen partner Ministries of Agriculture.
• Experience in Haiti strongly preferred.
• Experience with USAID, USDA, and other USG institutions strongly preferred.
• Experience maintaining working relationships with all project stakeholders, including coalition building and promotion of public-private partnerships a plus.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills in English and French;
• Extensive experience working and managing activities in challenging political and physical environments.

• Demonstrated ability to elaborate and implement systems and procedures and the ability to effectively communicate these to program/technical staff in order to ensure their compliance;
• Cultural sensitivity, and an ability to engage in difficult conversations with high level officials, victims, and other stakeholders
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
