The US Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Appui à la Valorisation du Potentiel Agricole du Nord, à la Sécurité Economique et Environnementale program (AVANSE) is a five-year, $87.8 million project designed to catalyze inclusive, sustainable economic growth in a potentially highly productive agricultural area. The program is based in Haiti’s Northern Corridor / Cap Haitien and works to increase agricultural incomes.
The AVANSE Project team is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual with experience in GIS to join its team.
Fonctions
The GIS Specialist will work with the Watershed Management team to map watersheds using GIS tools in order to support the establishment of sub-watershed management bodies. He will use spatial data to design and establish individual watershed management plans. He will also supervise the overall project GIS Data base that will centralize all geo-spatial data from all IRs for the entire project.
Specific Tasks:
The GIS Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks, but not limited to:
• Manage GIS system launch at program’s start-up and perform data analysis for GIS applications;
• Work with technical teams to apply integrated spatial planning tools to create and visualize complex landscape scenarios;
• Map current land uses, critical watersheds and protected areas, and map potential land use changes;
• Carry out GIS procedures, both simple and complex, for data creation, analysis, project reporting, data conversion, mapping, and graphic production; and
• Create and edit geospatial data using GPS and digitizing techniques. Create and edit maps, integrating a range of data formats and using state-of-the-art technology.
• Ensure overall coherence and functionality of the AVANSE GIS Data Base.
Qualifications Requises
• At least five years of experience applying GIS applications within the context of watersheds and protected land areas.
• Experience establishing GIS spatial databases and use of spatial planning tools is required.
• Familiarity with data collection and analysis required.
• Fluency in French and Haitian Creole required; English proficiency preferred.
• University degree in a relevant field required.
