Introduction

PURPOSE

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies (IFRC) is seeking to recruit a Communications Officer to support its Haiti delegation by producing communications materials in French, Creole and English which highlight the achievements of the Red Cross Movement in Haiti since the start of the earthquake operation in 2010 until its expected closure in December 2014.

This includes but is not limited to: researching and writing stories, beneficiary and volunteer profiles for internal publications, the IFRC website (www.ifrc.org), and the Haitian Red Cross website (www.croixrouge.ht) ; supporting field visits by Red Cross partner national societies, journalists and donors; monitoring the evolving humanitarian context in Haiti through local and international media monitoring.

The Communications Officer provides translation support for a wide range of written documents from web stories, press releases, radio show reviews to posters and leaflets. The role will provide verbal translation during interviews, community meetings and field visits to Red Cross Red Crescent projects.

The Communications Officer provides support for the organisation of events including press conferences, communications seminars and participation in external meetings.

The Communications Officer provides basic administrative support to the communications department including procurement of stationery supplies, external printing of major publications and internal travel arrangements for field visits.


Fonctions

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Research and write articles for internal and external communications tools

 Support communications visits from partner national societies and media

 Monitor local media and produce daily summary of local news

 Translate written documents from/ to English, French. and Creole in a timely and accurate manner. These include: reports, posters, interview transcriptions, posters, leaflets, and press releases

 Provide verbal translation from/ to French, English, Creole during field visits, community meetings etc.

 Manage a database of media contacts, suppliers, service providers, and consultants

 Support the logistical organization of various internal and external meetings

 Provide administrative support to the team including management of stationery and office equipment purchases

 Other duties as required by the IFRC communications team


Qualifications Requises

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

- Mastery of French, Creole and English

EXPERIENCE

- Experience in translation of documents from/into English, French, Creole
- Experience in verbal translation
- Experience in working with the Red Cross Movement or an NGO
- Experience in internal and external communications
- Experience in working in an office environment with computers
