Introduction

The Communications Officer will work to increase local, national and international understanding of CARE’s work and role in Haiti acting as a liaison to local and national media as well as all CARE international offices. This includes developing and writing Media articles, Human and Local Interest Stories (to include photographs), hosting donor visits, and updating CARE Haiti website and other social media.

The Communication Officer will support CARE’s commitment to transparency and accountability, including information about CARE’s activities in development programming and in case of an emergency response.

Job Responsibility #1 EXTERNAL RELATIONS 55%

• Act as a point of contact on media matters; respond to, prioritize and co-ordinate media and CI requests. Act as a spokesperson where appropriate and as agreed by the Country Director;
• Pro-actively develop Articles, Human and Local Interest stories for distribution to Media, CARE USA and other CARE International offices;
• Monitor and update CARE Haiti’s website and other social media (Facebook);
• Develop contacts within the Haitian Media;
• Contribute to take and manage CARE photograph library as relates to Haitian images;
• Assist in donor, media, and other organizational visits to Country Office and Programme Sites
• Liaise with CI members on media visits, use format to make go/no-go decision related to a proposed visit.

Job Responsibility #2 INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS WITH BENEFICIARIES

In collaboration with the Program Quality and Learning Team, Program Coordinators and Human Resources:
• Support the production of tools to help communicate CARE’s mission, vision and standards to beneficiairies / communities;
• Support internal communications mechanisms through advice on appropriate means of communications and messages;
• Develop internal communications tools such as newsletters, posters etc;
• Maintain library of communication tools on Shared Drive and regularly inform CARE Haiti staff of availability and use of tools.
• Write Quarterly Newsletters: one for Country Office and one for Programme Quality and Learning Unit.
• Participate in the communications working group.
Job Responsibility #3 PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
• Communication support for other CARE Program Communications Personnel
• Review funder/media communications tools such as newsletters, HIS, etc to ensure respond to CARE Branding Policy.
• Translate existing communication documents as needed
• CARE Emergency Response Team member supporting information/media needs


Qualifications Requises

Required
Bachelor and Master’s Degree in International Development or a relevant field (or equivalent)
Desired
Master's Degree in International Development or a relevant field
Required
3 year experience in journalism, social media and public relations skills under strict deadlines.

Desired
1 year in humanitarian aid experience with experience in journalism, social media and public relations skills under strict deadlines.

Technical Skills


Required
• Knowledge in journalism (broadcast or print), or related field such as media/public relations, and strong understanding of print, radio, television and social (online) media;
• Excellent visual and communications skills;
• Experience in community-level communication skills;
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, photo editing software etc);
• Photography and video filming competence;
• Fluent in English, French, and Haitian Creole
Desired
• Website updating and maintenance
• Spanish fluency
