UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is a USA based international development agency that provides long-term technical assistance to developing countries. UMCOR’s program areas in Haiti focus on continued earthquake early recovery and development activities. The Improving Post-Harvest Storage for Increased Agricultural Incomes in the Cul-de-Sac Plains project, in concert with the USAID WINNER project, will provide training and post-harvest storage infrastructure to farmers’ associations in the Cul-de-Sac plains east of Port-au-Prince.
UMCOR - Haiti is currently seeking a national Agriculture Project Manager for the Improving Post-Harvest Storage project. The position will be based in Bas Boen in the Cul-de-Sac plains at WINNER’s Rural Center for Sustainable Development (CRDD), with travel throughout the Cul-de-Sac plains and to Port-au-Prince as needed.
This is a five-month contract with the possibility of extension for a sixth month. The Manager will be required to work 40 hours per week. He or she will be part of UMCOR’s Livelihoods Program under the guidance of the Livelihoods Coordinator. Housing and transportation to and from work is not provided for this position. Transport is provided for business purposes during working hours only.
Fonctions
Responsibilities:
The Manager will report to the Livelihoods Coordinator in Port-au-Prince. His or her responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Implement the Improving Post-Harvest Storage project effectively and within time in concert with the WINNER project and as per the project proposal and requirements.
Build and maintain an active and constructive relationship with participating farmers’ associations. Lead meetings with associations to communicate the goals, requirements, procedures, and objectives of the project.
Coordinate all project logistics and activities with WINNER staff including beneficiary selection, project monitoring, and data collection.
Oversee the work of service providers to ensure that they are meeting contractual obligations in a satisfactory manner and contributing to the overall achievement of program objectives.
Work with the logistics team to oversee the procurement and distribution of post-harvest infrastructure to beneficiary associations.
Regularly monitor the progress of program activities and implementation, including visits to associations and silo locations, to ensure successful achievement of objectives.
Monitor all training offered under the project to ensure its thoroughness, consistency, quality, and technical soundness.
Provide necessary technical support to beneficiaries and service providers in the course of program implementation.
Produce and maintain accurate and detailed records of project activities and expenditures.
Prepare and submit regular progress reports and work plans to the Livelihoods Coordinator.
Qualifications Requises
Must have:
A University degree in agronomy, agricultural science or related field, and three years of project implementation experience with international or local development organizations, including a minimum of 2 years of experience working on agricultural projects
OR
A minimum of 6 years of experience implementing agricultural programs for international or local development organizations
AND:
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership ability
Demonstrated ability to mobilize local populations for action
Experience carrying out data collection and project monitoring
Past experience managing the work of service providing organizations
Good written and spoken English language skills; and
Strong work ethic, personal integrity, and independent problem solving skills
Experience with post-harvest techniques and storage is a plus
Experience with training monitoring is a plus
