Introduction

UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is a USA based international development agency that provides long-term technical assistance to developing countries. After the January 2010 earthquake, UMCOR intends to help rebuild Haiti focusing its activities in Tabarre, Croix des Bouquets, Leogane and Port-au-Price in the program sectors of water and sanitation, shelter and livelihoods. It is implementing a three year integrated program that targets interventions across its core sectors on sustainable development programs, working in coordination with national and international agencies based on ongoing needs assessment in consultations with the communities.

UMCOR- Haiti is currently seeking a service provider (individual, company or NGO) to provide Shelter Training services. The shelter trainer will be based at the UNDP Carmen Construction training center in Leogane.

The Service Provider will be paid on a daily basis, $100-120/day for an approximately 8 week period commencing on the 27th Feb. They will be required to work 40 hours per week, according to the training schedule


Fonctions

The Service Provider will provide 1 trainer to facilitate the Leogane-based sessions of UMCOR’s Householder training course as part of the UNDP ‘Carmen ‘project. This project consists of teaching homeowners how to identify and hire a good quality construction materials and builders, so that they can ensure they produce quality work, on time, and within the budget.

The trainer must live in Leogane for the duration of the contract, because the training begins promptly at 8am each weekday morning.

This contract will involve 4 days of induction at UMCOR’s Port au Prince office, where they will be provided with the training material, and will shadow other trainers followed by approximately 7 weeks of training at the Carmen Training center in Leogane.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The trainer will report to the Shelter and Reconstruction Coordinator and work in collaboration with the Shelter and Reconstruction team. Their responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Teaching the course on a daily basis at a ‘Carmen’ Training centre in Leogane
• Producing weekly attendance registers and regular reports in English
• Monitoring and evaluation


Qualifications Requises

• At least 3 years experience of teaching with a teaching qualification combined with some work experience in construction
OR
• At least 3 years previous work experience of construction combined with some work experience in teaching
AND
• Experience of working with community members
• Pro-active and a team player
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to contribute to both team and independent work
• Proven ability to deliver results
• Experience in humanitarian work with NGOs
• Fluent in Creole speaker
• Very good French speaking and reading skills
• Good English speaking and writing skill
• Ability to work independently
• Very good ability with using Powerpoint
