Introduction
UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is a USA based international development agency that provides long-term technical assistance to developing countries. After the January 2010 earthquake, UMCOR intends to help rebuild Haiti focusing its activities in Tabarre, Croix des Bouquets, Leogane and Port-au-Price in the program sectors of water and sanitation, shelter and livelihoods. UMCOR – Haiti is implementing a three year integrated program that targets interventions across its core sectors on sustainable development programs. UMCOR – Haiti works in coordination with national and international agencies based on ongoing needs assessment in consultations with the communities.
UMCOR- Haiti is currently seeking a national Shelter Assistant-Trainer (SA-T). She/He will be based at UMCOR Haiti’s Port au Prince office.
The Shelter Assistant-Trainer (SA-T) will be required to work 40 hours per week, with flexible of working hours during the week. The Shelter Assistant-Trainer (SA-T) will implement UMCOR’s short and long term program of Haiti under guidance of the Shelter and Reconstruction Coordinator (SRC).
Fonctions
The Shelter Assistant – Trainer will carry out training for will facilitate UMCOR’s Customer Protection training course as part of the ‘Carmen project’. This consists of teaching homeowners how to identify and hire a good quality builder, how to ensure that they produce quality work, complete the work on time, and complete the work within the budget.
Upon completion of the project the Shelter Assistant may be considered for continued employment within the UMCOR shelter and reconstruction team to work on further projects, which may extend into other areas such as construction monitoring and supervision.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Shelter Assistant will report to the Shelter and Reconstruction Coordinator working in collaboration with the Shelter and Reconstruction team. The responsibilities of the Shelter Assistant will include, but are not limited to:
• Development of the course curriculum
• Teaching the course on a daily basis at the ‘Carmen Training centre’
• Produce weekly attendance registers and regular reports in English
• Carrying out construction monitoring activities and site surveys
• Carrying out liaison with beneficiaries and partner organisations
• Monitoring and evaluation
Qualifications Requises
• Minimum 3 years experiences in construction or teaching (similar position)
• Previous work experience of construction training
• OR qualification and experience of teaching in general combined with practical experience of construction in Haiti
• Proficiency in oral and written English is required
• Pro-active and a team player
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to contribute to both team and independent work
• Proven ability to deliver results
• Experience in humanitarian work with NGOs

Conditions de travail
• Starting salary is between USD 500 to USD 640 per month depending on skills and experiences plus other UMCOR’s national staff benefits.
