Introduction

BRAC began in 1972 as a small relief effort in response to Bangladesh’s war of liberation, which left the country torn by poverty and strife. Over the past 39 years, BRAC has developed, tested and implemented a myriad of development programs that have propelled it to become one of the largest and most comprehensive development organizations in the world. We are a development organization dedicated to the alleviation of poverty by empowering the poor to realize their potential and bring about positive change in their own lives.

BRAC has touched the lives of an estimated 110 million people in 10 countries, including Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Tanzania, Uganda, Southern Sudan, and Haiti.

In March 2010, BRAC Haiti was established to reflect BRAC’s long term commitment to Haiti’s development. BRAC Haiti provides services in areas of youth and education, health care, permanent housing, social and economic empowerment, financial and enterprise development, agriculture and food security, as well as environmental sustainability and watershed management.
