Introduction

Build Change (www.buildchange.org) is an award-winning, international non-profit social enterprise that specializes in post-earthquake reconstruction. Build Change has extensive experience working in Banda Aceh and Sumatra, Indonesia and Sichuan, China. In Haiti, Build Change provides hands-on technical assistance and training directly to homeowners and builders during the rebuilding process to enable them to build safe homes that will withstand a future earthquake.


Fonctions

Public awareness and community outreach activities will also require the Communications and Outreach Coordinator to develop cooperative relationships with community leaders, local and partnering organizations, as well as elected officials and government representatives. The Communications and Outreach Coordinator will coordinate these various community outreach strategies and awareness campaign efforts, in a culturally-sensitive manner, thereby strengthening the community capacity, building community trust, and expanding our capacity to authentically connect with the community.
• Implement strategies and tactics for effective community outreach.
• Coordinate the development of key messages, as well as marketing and educational tools that will encourage better construction.
• Identify and support the development of opportunities for consensus-building with community leaders, local and partnering organizations, elected officials and government representatives that may be influential to the targeted population, in order to facilitate the dissemination of key messages, as well as marketing and educational tools.
• Develop a network of community resources, including local community-based organizations and partners, to organize and sponsor community involvement activities, such as focus groups and round table discussions with target audiences for the purpose of vetting and distributing marketing and educational tools.
• Improve community perception and awareness of better construction techniques and usage of good quality materials by reviewing key messages intimately with residents and builders.
• Effectively collect information that can be used by project team to ensure success of project.
• File and report Communications and Outreach activities on a weekly basis
• Other tasks as needed


Qualifications Requises

• Degree in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations
• At least 3 years’ experience in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations
• Previous experience with non-profit organizations preferred
• Attention to detail and quality control
• Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service
• Proficiency with Internet, Excel, Word and other Office applications
• Strong understanding of Haitian culture
• Fluency in written and spoken English, French and Creole required
• Flexible work hours, including some evenings and some Saturdays.
• Reports to Director of Communications & Outreach


Conditions particulières

As a member of the Communications department, the Communications and Outreach Coordinator for Build Change will play a critical role in increasing community awareness and building public support for changing construction practices in Haiti and building better houses. Most of the outreach activities will be specifically devoted to hard-to-reach, low-income residents and builders involved in owner-driven reconstruction in various neighborhoods.
