Introduction

Build Change (www.buildchange.org) is an award-winning, international non-profit social enterprise that specializes in post-earthquake reconstruction. Build Change has extensive experience working in Banda Aceh and Sumatra, Indonesia and Sichuan, China. In Haiti, Build Change provides hands-on technical assistance and training directly to homeowners and builders during the rebuilding process to enable them to build safe homes that will withstand a future earthquake.


Fonctions

The Graphic Designer will plan, analyze, and create visual solutions to communicate the need for better construction in Haiti and the techniques for how to do so. S/he will find the most effective way to get the key messages across in print, electronic and interactive media using color, type, illustration, photography, animation, as well as various print and layout techniques, to develop the overall layout and design of flyers, posters, technical manuals, corporate reports, and other publications, as needed.

Key responsibilities may include:

• Display a sense of methodology and process in delivering creative and innovative solutions that demonstrate a broad range of fresh and original solutions to creative briefs for marketing and educational tools about better construction techniques in Haiti
• Actively participate in creative reviews, develop credibility with project partners and is comfortable exploring differing points of view.
• Respond well to direction and be able to incorporate feedback quickly, in a new creative way.
• Use strong concept, design, layout and refined use of typography.
• Use strategic thinking to deliver work that is aesthetically pleasing, yet conveys key simple and technical messages about better construction.
• Employ exceptional presentation skills to articulate concepts clearly to internal teams, and being comfortable presenting to external audiences both large and small.
• Meet project timelines through good management of workflow and ability to prioritize, organize and plan.
• Identify roadblocks and working with management to determine solutions.
• Apply exceptional attention to detail.
• Deliver polished work for creative reviews.
• Other tasks as needed


Qualifications Requises

• Degree in Graphic Design or equivalent
• 3 years’ experience in designing and producing print, electronic and interactive tools
• Expertise in Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, InDesign and/or the full creative suite (CS4 or higher preferred). Please specify whether you are Mac or PC platform.
• Must provide a portfolio to be considered.
• Previous experience with non-profit organizations a plus
• Attention to detail and quality control
• Proficiency with Internet, Excel, Word and other Office applications
• Strong understanding of Haitian culture
• Fluency in written and spoken English, French and Creole is a plus
• Flexible work hours, including some evenings and some Saturdays.
• Reports to Director of Communications & Outreach


Conditions particulières

As a member of the Communications department, the Graphic Designer for Build Change will play a critical role in creating the various visual marketing and educational tools needed to increase community awareness and build public support for changing construction practices in Haiti and building better houses. These culturally-sensitive tools will target hard-to-reach, low-income residents and builders involved in owner-driven reconstruction in various neighborhoods, as well as community leaders, local and partnering organizations, as well as elected officials and government representatives.
