Under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator WASH and direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant (Artibonite), the candidate will support the successful implementation and management of water and sanitation activities. (S)he will provide her/his technical support for the implementation of WASH activities among IDPs and vulnerable host communities in Haiti. The incumbent will be a member of the WASH team, based in Gonaives, tasked to implement the IOM WASH projects.
Fonctions
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:
1. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities including rehabilitation of water network and water sources, cleaning and rehabilitation of drainage channels, waste management, small-scale rehabilitations of cholera treatment centers (CTC).
2. Participate in technical assessments and analysis of the data collected for the implementation of WASH activities.
3. Assist in planning the project intervention and prepare cost estimates for the activities.
4. Implement and monitor emergency WASH activities for displaced population including water trucking, solid and liquid waste management in humanitarian settings, etc…
5. Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest remedial actions.
6. Draft correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentation, and other forms of documentation.
7. Verify constructions and activities are completed to a satisfactory standard before final payment is authorized.
8. Ensure regular communication with beneficiary communities to explain the objectives, activities, and expected outcomes of WASH projects.
9. Collaborate with local leaders and community organizations to ensure acceptance and buy-in for WASH activities
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Requises
Education
University degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology or a related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience or School diploma in the above fields with five years of relevant experience
Experience and Skills
? Experience in the implementation of WASH activities to provide life-saving assistance to affected populations in Haiti
? Experience in the design and implementation of WASH infrastructure, including procurement and contract management.
? Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups;
? Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
? Good level of analytical skills.
? Computer literacy in office automation, computer aided engineering design and geoinformatics software.
? Excellent communication skills; capable to share ideas and explain results to all levels of the Organization and stakeholders
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
Required
• For this position, fluency in French and Haitian Creole is required (oral and written).
Desirable
• Working knowledge in English.
