PROJECT SUMMARY

PADF is implementing the Projet Paysages Resilients (PPR-Sud) funded by the United States Agency for International Development. PPR-Sud supports watershed and landscape governance interventions through rehabilitation of sub-watersheds and reinforcement of community-led natural resource management. Its intervention areas are the sub-watersheds of the Ravine du Sud, Rivière de l’Acul and Rivière de Torbeck of the Les Cayes Basin. As such, PADF is soliciting applications from experienced candidates for the position of Senior Agronomist. The position is based in the South.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The holder of this position will be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of related agriculture and market-based strategies working closely with the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP). The focus will be on ensuring successful coordination, implementation, and supervision of all agriculture market-based initiatives under PPR-Sud in coordination with the project Partners. Key areas of focus will include soil fertility management, smart land use practices, market linkages, technology transfer, and technical soundness and implementation of program activities.


Fonctions

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in the planning and execution of the diagnostic assessment

• Contribute to the PPR-Sud strategic objectives of rehabilitating critical sub-watersheds and strengthening community-led natural resource management.

• Provide coordination and ensure the implementation and supervision of all related-agricultural and market-based activities in coordination with the project partners.

• Coordinate with the Senior Agroforestry Manager all technical and logistical operations during the implementation of the PPR-Sud components.

• Coordinate with the project partners all PPR-Sud related market linkage initiatives for agroforestry products

• Contribute to set up the Master Farmers platforms

• Work in coordination with the Senior Agroforestry Manager to facilitate the establishment of demonstration plots emphasizing best practices of soil fertility management.

• Coordinate with project partners and supervise all initiatives to support sustainable forage crops

• Contribute to train master farmers in sustainable land use practices, business support and marketing

• Oversee all related Market-based agricultural activities through regular field visits and staff meeting to ensure timely implementation of activities and program progress.

• In coordination with the Senior Agroforestry Manager and in collaboration with the M&E Unit, monitor on a regular basis progress towards achievement of the PPR-Sud’s objectives.

• Promote working collaboration with financial institutions to bring appropriate business development services to program beneficiaries

• Ensure timely and quality implementation of all PPR-Sud related Agriculture Market-based operations.

• Facilitate working collaboration with relevant partners including the Ministry of Agriculture.

• Ensure that all agriculture related Market-based operations are implemented according to best standard practices.

• Maintain close communication with the field staff and ensure an effective flow of information between the field staff and project office to address constraints on time

• Coordinate and assist in any program evaluations and in special studies

• Perform other duties as required


Qualifications Requises

• Hold at least a university degree in agronomy, agro-economy, crop science, soil science or related field with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience. A MS degree in one of the mentioned fields is preferred.

• Have proven experience in planning, coordination, and supervision of staff.

• Have basic knowledge in adaptive agronomic research and statistical data analysis and experience in writing technical report.

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.

• Good computer and Internet skills are highly desired.

• Knowledge of donor procedures especially USAID
