Introduction
The mission of the Haitian Education & Leadership Program (HELP) is to create, through merit- and needs-based university scholarships, a community of young professionals and leaders who will promote a more just society in Haiti.
Fonctions
The English Language Instructor (ELI) reports to HELP’s Academic Deputy Director to ensure effective English instruction at HELP. Responsibilities include:
• Teaching, including planning and evaluation. HELP English classes are usually taught at the HELP center between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM and may be taught online and/or in person.
• Individual student support, when necessary. This includes meetings with students, developing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and monitoring English student engagement in the tutoring program.
• Communicating and reporting: monthly report, email communication, time sheet, meetings with Senior English Instructor and Academic Director, possibly contributing to reports for donors and/or marketing material.
• Extra-curricular activities, including planning and facilitating Saturday Activities, the In English Please club, and conferences with English-speaking guests.
• Contribute to HELP’s Personal Production program.
• Contribute to HELP’S Orientation activities.
• Planning and facilitating workshops for HELP staff and external partners
The goal of HELP’s Academic Department is for all students to develop English proficiency, capacity in information technologies, as well as the skills and desire to work for positive change in Haiti. While HELP’s English, IT, and Citizenship & Leadership courses are taught as separate curricula, cross-curricular connections are an important part of course development.
