CHAI’s global malaria program provides direct technical and operational support to countries around the globe to strengthen their malaria programs and reduce the burden of this preventable, treatable disease. We support governments to scale up effective interventions for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, with the goals of sustainably reducing the number of malaria-related illnesses and deaths worldwide in the short-term and accelerating progress towards malaria elimination in the long term.

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Strategy and Management Associate to help the governments in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Honduras and Guatemala achieve historic malaria elimination. In addition, this individual will provide financial analysis support in order to implement the Regional Malaria Elimination Initiative (RMEI) alongside the InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB). As part of the Global Malaria Team, the Strategy and Management Associate will provide direct support at the highest level of government and to senior partners from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and other international and local NGOs. In particular, the Associate will support the development of strategic plans for sustainably eliminating malaria and preventing resurgence and develop the cost models to determine the resources required. In addition, the Associate will analyze the strategic, managerial, and operational challenges countries encounter in their fight to eliminate malaria, and then based on the assessment, develop solutions framework and work with the country and partners to implement it. The Associate will report to the Senior Manager of the Global Malaria Strategy and Finance Team; base location is preferably Port Au Prince, Haiti, but other options within Panama, Honduras, or Guatemala are optional.

The Associate will bring outstanding relationship management, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. The Associate must also be able to work independently and have deep personal commitment to producing results. The Associate also will be expected to be fluent in Excel and have a high business proficiency in English and French, with Spanish as an optional advantage. CHAI places great value on the resourcefulness, tenacity, patience, humility, and high ethical standards of its staff.

Fluent in English, French; proficiency in Spanish is a bonus
3+ years of working experience with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership in finance, management consulting, or another relevant field
Master's degree in Business, Policy, Public Administration, Public Health, or related field, or Bachelor's degree with equivalent work experience
High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Exceptional relationship management and communication skills
Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships in a challenging multicultural environment
Demonstrated excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
Ability to oversee multiple work streams simultaneously, to set priorities, and to work independently and flexibly with a strong commitment to excellence in high-pressure situations
Willingness to travel to up to 50% of the time (flexibility depending on base location)

Provide strategic guidance, planning, and management support to CHAI teams in Central America, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, with a strong focus on Haiti. as they operationalize malaria elimination plans at the provincial and community-level
Work with national malaria staff and CHAI country teams to optimize and cost national malaria plans by building Excel-based costing and budget models
Conduct costing and financial analyses and support the development of funding proposals and operational plans
Assist government programs and donors with addressing the long-term sustainability of malaria funding, by: forecasting future funding gaps, mapping and assessing funding opportunities (both innovative and traditional), and working other technical teams and partners to streamline and integrate malaria services to lower costs
Implement a diagnostic to help determine the key managerial challenges particularly around local malaria management teams betting set up by the RMEI, and develop a framework to help the government and partners prioritize solutions to these operational and managerial challenges
Engage with and cultivate donors, including individuals, corporations, and organizations interested in supporting malaria programs
Serve as a trusted advisor to CHAI teams and the InterAmerican Development Bank
Build strong relationships with stakeholders across government, non-governmental organizations and the private sector
Coordinate meetings and facilitate knowledge sharing between government programs and partner organization in the region
Other responsibilities as needed

Experience working and communicating with government officials and multilateral organizations
Experience living or working in resource-limited countries in Haiti, Latin America or the Caribbean
Experience working remotely with a decentralized team
Knowledge of malaria and/or other major global infectious disease problems is not required, but can be helpful.
