The IT and Database Assistant primarily assists the IT unit in supporting and maintaining our custom opensource student database, Baz la which is built on a Drupal platform and customized CiviCRM, in addition to providing general IT support as needed by the organization. This position will be an integral member of a progressive, team-oriented unit. The employee will have the ability to work effectively with others and develop analytical skills. Under general supervision, the IT and Database Assistant will test and debug functionality; perform entry level program analysis and prepare documentation; assist units with data process integration. The Assistant will work closely with a team of remote programmers who are continually implementing core functionality into our database. The ideal candidate should have the curiosity to learn new things every day, and the ability to deploy effective code, and build education support tools.
Fonctions
A- General
a. Works closely with the IT unit and data teams as well as other departments to optimize the data entry process. This includes training staff and interns to properly enter data and regularly verifying the data.
b. Write effective documentation and create tools for users to help them understand and best use the software.
c. Build reusable data reports and views as requested by users.
d. Conduct recurring training for staff and plan and coordinate project rollouts.
e. Gather, analyze, and document user information needs and business issues and help determine the most effective/efficient programming solution.
f. Maintain and support the official website.
g. Support users with basic technical issues related to Windows 10 Pro, Internet connection, Computers and Printers.
h. Troubleshoot basic issues related to Windows servers, wired and Wi-Fi networks.
i. Install and update software when needed.
j. Completing other IT duties as needed.
B- Educational
a. Support students and peers in problem solving and education in your area of expertise.
b. Collaborate with the IT instructors in HELP’s Academic Dept. in teacher training and maintenance of educational platform (Moodle).
c. Provide ongoing training on KOHA library management software and support the training of library interns.
C- Support to overall HELP activities:
a. Provide additional support as needed and requested by the HELP Direction (e.g. PR, Outreach, recruiting, fundraising, participation in meetings and HELP activities, participating on interview panels for staff and students, etc).
Qualifications Requises
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar field
- Work experience:
o Familiarity with software development process.
? Experience with CMS (Drupal, wordpress) preferred
? Experience with various Programming languages (PHP, Javascript)
o Strong understanding of IT infrastructure
o Database administration : SQL, MySQL…
o Familiarity with Linux and command-based Operating Systems
o Detailed oriented
- Essential skills:
o Excellent oral and written communication skills
o Ability to keep data clean and look for data irregularities
o Proficiency in Microsoft office Suite (word, Excel, Office365, Azure exchange)
- Language(s): French (Fluent) ; English (Proficient)
