Organization Profile:
Zanmi Lasante (ZL) is a nonprofit organization that has been working in Haiti to support the Haiti Ministry of Health facilities and health programs for over 30 years. Through service delivery, training, advocacy, and research, ZL works in the Central Plateau and the Lower Artibonite in Haiti to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of it, and to provide a preferential option for the poor. Zanmi Lasante is the sister organization of Partners In Health (PIH) headquartered in Boston, MA and with other affiliated organizations and initiatives in Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Navajo Nation, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and others. With the same overall goal to improve marginalized people’s life, ZL and PIH share core values, resources, partners, and supporters. To take on these great and immense challenges, ZL seeks individuals truly committed to the mission and fundamental values of the organization to join the team.
The NCD program at HUM started in 2013 and now supports clinical programs also at Hinche, Thomonde, and Lascohabas, with further plans for expansion. At HUM and HSTH, heart failure and other NCDs are a major cause of hospitalization and improved systems are needed to provide care. Research is needed to identify the quality of care processes, factors related to poor follow-up, and assessment of the impact of clinical and program innovations.
I.- OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
The research assistant is responsible for the execution of the research activities of the Non-communicable Diseases program.

II- RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
2.1 MAIN TASKS
Responsibilities include the following:
a) Work with the NCD Research coordinator on research protocols, procedures, and techniques to collect field data, samples, materials, and/or media related to specific research projects that focus on the quality of care for patients with NCDs.
b) Follow detailed protocol and procedures in recording, processing, and analyzing routine field data as determined by the NCD Research Coordinator and ensure that all documentation for periodic research reports/Updates is properly compiled and submitted on time.
c) Work with NCD providers at each ZL NCD site to recruit NCD patients for research purposes and ensure case management interventions for all recruited NCD patients
d) Travel to ZL NCD sites to perform job-related duties as assigned
2.2 SPECIFIC TASKS
• Assist in the planning of research activities with the NCD Research Coordinator and the NCD clinical providers.
• Maintain active bioethics certifications and data use certification with ZL.
• Collaborate with NCD clinicians to assess potential patients' eligibility for inclusion in a particular research study.
• Recruit, enroll, follow, and schedule eligible patients into research studies according to established protocols.
• Perform semi-structured interviews or lead focus groups with patients/families and providers.
• Interact with patients before entering the study and throughout the entire treatment.
• Discuss informed consent with patients.
• Assist with scheduling appointments and follow up tests according to the study requirements
• Assist in monitoring strict adherence to protocols by NCD providers and patients.
• Review protocol requirements with physicians, nurses, and fellows.
• Identifies problems with protocol compliance and work with the research team to make corrections.
• Develop expertise in and execute projects using qualitative research methods in addition to quantitative research methods.
• Collaborate with ZL health information systems teams to export data from the clinical medical record and central reports.
• Participate actively in regular research meetings (in-person, phone, video conference) with the NCD team and research leaders.
• Ensure that data to be entered into electronic medical record systems and/or paper charts are entered within the timeframe and updates are available regularly for report production, evaluation of performance, services quality assessment, operational research, target projection, budget planning, etc.
• Perform all other tasks relevant to this position


Qualifications Requises

• Bachelor degree in nursing
• 1 to 3 years of research experience working with patients
• Good English proficiency highly preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with study participants, researchers and non-researchers.
• Skill in writing concise and understandable documentation of procedures.
• Careful attention to details
• Good organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team player
• Experience with electronic data management
