Introduction
Background
The Haitian Center for the Strengthening of the Health System (CHARESS) is a non-governmental organization that aims to help strengthen the health system in Haiti with a particular emphasis on the prevention and care of HIV / AIDS and tuberculosis.
CHARESS is charged with building clinical training capacity and supporting extension of high-quality health care services in Haiti. The Psychologist Mentor will provide “bedside” teaching to psychologists, social workers, community health workers (CHW) and counselors within in-patient and out-patient services of the sites of intervention.
Job Summary
The Psychologue Mentor will assist the CHARESS team to organize and conduct clinical courses for psychologists, social workers and counselors. She/ he will evaluate the roles of psychologists, social workers, and counselors within the multi-disciplinary team providing HIV, TB, concomitants pathologies care and treatment, and make recommendations on reinforcing these roles to result in improved patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment, patient education, adherence counseling and support, family support communication, and other service areas.
Fonctions
1. Provide “bedside” mentoring of psychologists, social workers and counselors at all facilities (40%)
• Demonstrate competent, sensitive care of patients in accordance with national and international treatment guidelines and best practices in patient communication.
• Demonstrate collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team (with physician, nurse, lab, pharmacy, social worker, and community outreach personnel) to plan and deliver effective care for patients enrolled at all the facilities assigned to her.
• Support the care providers to develop news strategies to link clinical activities and Communities activities to improve retention in care and tracking patients lost follow up.
• Provide “bedside” teaching to staff and student psychologists, social workers and counselors within in-patient and out-patient services.
• Apply clinical mentoring evaluation tools to observe and give feedback to staff and student trainees to improve their skills.
• Provide technical assistance at Programme national de Lutte contre le SIDA(PNLS) team in the sites visits
2. Organize and conduct HIV and infectious diseases clinical training activities for psychologists (35%)
• Identify relevant topics for clinical training sessions for psychologists, social workers, counselors and community health workers and locate teaching resources relevant to the topic.
• Assist CHARESS Clinical Mentors to develop and facilitate engaging, interactive sessions on HIV and TB care and treatment as well as concomitants pathologies (morbidity and mortality case conferences, grand rounds, and other training sessions) appropriate for psychologists, social workers, counselors, community health workers and other team members.
• Assist the CHARESS and the PNLS team to develop, edit, and disseminate clinical curriculum materials for psychologists, social workers and counselors, including training curriculum, video-based projects, job aides, and other innovative clinical training tools.
• As needed, review HIV and TB clinical training content for accuracy and consistency with Haitian guidelines and international standards.
• Provide technical assistance to build capacity of psychologists and social workers mentees team in each department
3. Assist quality of care improvement activities (10%)
• Assist the CHARESS and HealthQual teams in the facilities teams to identify quality of care indicators and to track these over times.
• Assist the CHARESS and the HealthQual teams to apply “Plan, Do, Study, Act” cycles for quality improvement.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership and staff to monitor the VCT, PMTCT, palliative care, and ART services at the facilities and make recommendations on improving integration to optimize continuity of care.
• Use the electronic medical record to track individual and hospital population care, and to analyze data on quality of care issues.
• Assist CHARESS and the facilities teams to design and implement strategies to evaluate patient satisfaction.
4. Assist PNLS in implementing Prep activities in the Sites (5%).
5. Assist PNLS in implementing Self testing activities in the Sites (5%)
6. Organize and conduct iSanté and OpenELIS training activities 3%)
• Assist the SI team to implement iSanté and OpenELIS
• Conduct training sessions for care providers on the of use iSanté and OpenELIS
• Utilize the iSanté dashboard to provide in depth technical assistance to the providers based on the sites data
8. Other (2%)
• Provide progress reports and updates, as requested.
• Represent CHARESS in meetings with external partners, at conferences, or other events, as requested.
• Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications Requises
Required – Minimum Education (e.g., BA, MS, PhD; include the field of study)
• Social Science Degree, Education or any other related field or the equivalent in work experience
• Fluent in French and Creole
Required – Minimum Work Experience (number of years and type of experience)
• At least 5 years of professional experience in the psychosocial care of people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS.
• Strong grasp of HIV, TB and related clinical issues, knowledge of infection control and awareness of current medical literature and national treatment guidelines.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to the socio-cultural, economic and medical needs of patients.
• Strong knowledge of health care systems and organization of services to assure continuity of care.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
• Proven leadership, communication, team building and sophisticated problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated sens of responsibility and able to work within a team.
• Skilled in Writing reports, data analysis and interpretation.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with partners, staff, colleagues with a high level of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
• Training or teaching experience and/or experience providing technical assistance to clinics or organizations.
Desired – Education, Work Experience
• Formal training in public health (epidemiology, program planning, evaluation).
• Experience in delivery of training using participatory training methodologies.
• Experience in training of trainers (TOT).
• Experience in training program planning, monitoring and evaluation.
• Curriculum development skills, with an emphasis on interactive, participatory learning methodologies.
• Knowledge of quality improvement processes.
• Computer skills including MS Word (at least intermediate-level), PowerPoint (at least intermediate-level), Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook or other internet software. Ability to conduct searches for information on the world-wide-web.
• Fluent in English.
Conditions de travail
This position will be based at Haiti in different health facilities. The Psychologist Mentor will be expected to attend regular meetings at the CHARESS office and participate in occasional travel outside of Haiti for professional development purposes.
