This position will be based in Cap-Haitien on the USAID Reforestation Project, implemented by Chemonics International and consortium partners, National Cooperative Business Association
CLUSA (NCBA CLUSA) and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT). The high-value crops specialist will be embedded within the project team and will report to the Resilience Specialist. This project aims to increase forest and perennial tree cover in Northern Haiti, with a view to restore and improve the provision of environmental services and support food security and resilience. The four objectives of the project are:
1. Reduce the Threat of Deforestation
2. Improve Resilience to Economic and Natural Shocks
3. Increase Tree Cover in Targeted Areas
4. Improve Environmental Governance and Coordination
The High-Value Crop Specialist will lead efforts to support high-value crops production systems to increase and diversify production and incomes while promoting agroforestry and reforestation efforts.

ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
o Lead the technical direction of the value chain interventions of the project, contributing to the economic and environmental resilience objectives of the project;
o Provide technical guidance within the project;
o Strengthen high-value agroforestry market linkages, and work with farmers to upgrade quality/commercialization of high-value cash crops and achieve organic and fair-trade certifications as appropriate;
o Develop results-oriented programming for each value chain that focuses on inclusive, innovative market-led strategies;
o Critically analyze and map high-value crop value chains such as coffee, mango, cacao, and moringa to identify critical barriers, gaps, and opportunities;
o Support small-scale processing, preservation, and storage of fruits to support reforestation efforts;
o Increase wealth among smallholder farmers and develop resilience in the value chains, in ways that contribute to promotion of tree cover in target areas;
o Contribute to the collection of data and information for the monitoring and evaluation of project activities;
o Assist local organizations in developing successful grant proposals and business plans
o Develop training materials and deliver training and capacity building.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
o Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, Master’s preferred
o 5 years of experience or more as the technical manager for donor-funded value chain, making markets work for the poor, and/or market systems development projects.
o Demonstrated success using facilitation in at least one of the following: the USAID value chain approach, making markets work for the poor, or Market Systems Development approach, which led to greater competitiveness and inclusiveness in markets.
o Experience mapping value chains using USAID methodology and analyzing the horizontal and vertical relationships in value chains;
o Experience creating “light touch” market-led, results-oriented value chain programming
o Experience coordinating interventions with private sector partners, including lead firms on value chain interventions;
o Experience developing value chain work plans, and in monitoring and evaluating value chain activities;
o Fluency in English, French and Haitian Creole
