FINCA Haiti S.A. is a microfinance institution that has operated in Haiti since 1989 with a mission to alleviate poverty through lasting solutions that help people build assets, create jobs and raise their standard of living. The organization is the second largest microfinance institution in Haiti by number of active borrowers that targets the poorest segments of the population as evidenced by their average loan size outstanding figures. FINCA Haiti offers four loan products: village banking loans, individual loans, SME loans, and agriculture loans. While these products are offered to a range of different clients, 89% of FINCA Haiti borrowers are women.

Scope:
The scope of work for this engagement will focus on the following areas;
• Review FINCA Haiti Agricultural lending product, processes and channels to ensure this aligns with the needs of smallholder families and other actors within the value chains.
• Analyze the local market and propose financial products and services that can help the clients increase profitability and their resilience in the face of the effects of climate change, establishing durable and responsible practices towards the environment (waste management, use of water, fertilizers, earth and crop rotation, etc.).
• Explore various risk mitigation measures on the market and propose more suitable solutionsthat FINCA Haiti can adopt to address the risks arising from climate change.
• Interview agricultural and non-agricultural clients whose businesses have been affected by natural disasters (floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, e.t.c) to understand the losses suffered by their businesses and their coping mechanisms and use these insights to propose a resilience strategy for agricultural clients.
• Assess farming practices and productivity of smallholder families with the goal of understanding how they use land, fertilizer application, crop rotation and propose a strategy to help clients improve their natural resource management practices for increased productivity.
Deliverables
The consultant is expected to deliver the following outputs;
• Report on the review of FINCA Haiti Agricultural Loan product, Processes and Channels and propose recommendations to align the product, processes and channels to needs of target market.
• An analysis of the market scan, a business case and proposed products, services and channels that FINCA Haiti can explore to increase the scale of financial service within the Agricultural sector.
• Risk management strategy highlighting risk mitigation measures that FINCA Haiti can use to deal various risks arising from climate change and natural resource disasters.
• Propose a resilience strategy for FINCA Haiti Customers
• Propose a strategy for sustainable natural resource management among FINCA Haiti Customers.
Qualifications Requises
• 7 years’ experience in Rural and Agricultural Finance, Value Chain Analysis, Capacity Building with proven experience in training, ideally in the Haitian market;
• Proven experience in crop and farm management practices, livestock and sustainable natural resource management;
• Experience in analysis of agricultural value chains and product development within Agricultural sector actors;
• Experience developing tools, policies and procedures for lending within the Agricultural sector;
• Experience and knowledge of climate smart agriculture will be a strong plus;
• Digital financial services experience will be a strong plus;
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills;
• Technical and analytical skills with the ability to explain findings clearly;
• A degree in Agriculture or Agribusiness. An advanced degree in Business, Natural resources management would be an advantage;
• Strong communication skills including writing and oral presentation capabilities in French, Creole and English;
