Introduction

Purpose: The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Ops and Finance Manager, supervises the Bookkeeper in Cap Haitian, and collaborates with both program and administrative departments for the back-office operations of Ayiti Nexus. This position oversees and is responsible for the application of established internal control procedures in regards to all disbursement requests and all cash receipt activities, and the safeguard of all business assets.


Fonctions

Key Responsibilities
● Prepare records of assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses by compiling, allocating, posting, verifying all account transactions
o Prepare client invoices in conformity with billing terms of client contracts
o Review disbursement requests and bank balance availability before approving expenses and presenting requests to supervisor for review and processing of transactions
o Review timesheets in order to process staff payroll and consultant payments
o Prepare bank reconciliations
o Update Chart of Accounts when necessary
● Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance, as well as resolve discrepancies
o Prepare financial statements
o Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the Senior Management’s attention
o Prepare detailed monthly and end of the year financial reports for presentation to Senior Management
o In close collaboration with the Senior Management, produce the company’s operational budget annually and revise it periodically; is responsible for the strict management of expenditures according to approved budget, and must continuously implement actions towards cost efficiency
o In collaboration with New Business team, produce financial cost proposals
o Enter project budgets in accounting system; liaise with Project Managers to execute realignments, as well as other project related budgetary tasks as necessary; submit budgetary reports to Project Managers as needed
o In charge of recovering cash need estimates from management staff in advance of monthly deadline, and of preparing cash flow projections report to be shared with Senior Management
● Serve as the liaison with external service providers facilitating tax payments, tax reporting and audits
o Prepare tax payments for DGI, ONA and OFATMA
o Assist with tax audits managed by fiscal accounting firm
o Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance with accounting policies and processes
● Liaise with Senior Management to improve financial procedures;
o Periodically update Accounting Manual upon obtaining Senior Management’s approval
o Facilitate understanding of staff and consultants around procurement and accounting procedures of the firm
● Manage bookkeeping staff
● Ensure security of financial data by keeping all information confidential, strictly managing and efficiently organizing company financial data, and regularly completing electronic backups of database
● Attend job-related training as needed
● Represent the firm as necessary in meetings or events relevant to the position
● Other tasks relevant to the position, as they may arise


Qualifications Requises

Professional Requirements
● Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or Finance
● Master’s Degree or relevant accounting certification (e.g CMA.CPA) is a plus
● Five to ten years of work experience, preferably in an accounting supervisory role
● Hands-on experience with accounting software packages like QuickBooks online
● Experience managing financial reporting needs of donor funded projects
● Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end closing process
● Familiarity with financial accounting statements
● Excellent written and oral communication skills (proficiency in English, French, and Creole)
● Ability to occasionally travel to Cap-Haitien
