Introduction

Background
The development, production, dissemination, and adoption by farmers of well-suited cultivars are key
components of a viable value chain development system. To date, the majority of farmers in Haiti use adapted
but low yielding cultivars (of rice, beans, maize) that meet their needs and are acceptable to Haitian consumers.
Farmers require accurate information presented in an understandable manner that allows them to judge the
risks and potential benefits of changing their traditional cultivar lineup and agronomic practices to cultivars and
new agriculture practices that lead to increased production. To support such requirements, the Feed the Future
West ‘Appui à la Recherche at au Développement Agricole’ (AREA) project is implementing activities for seed
production system of selected value chain, chiefly maize.
The Direction of research of the AREA project is seeking to immediately hire a Research and Extension scientist
