Introduction

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

The purpose of this task order (TO) is to provide technical assistance to the USAID Water and Sanitation Project (the Project), to reduce the prevalence of cholera and other waterborne diseases, and improve the health and prosperity of the Haitian People. The Project will lay the foundation for a long-term, sustained effort to increase access to safe drinking water and sanitation in Haiti, where many communities suffer from high incidences of cholera and diarrheal disease.


Fonctions

ROLE’S PURPOSE
The Communications Officer will be responsible for completing a broad variety of communication tasks for the Project in Haiti including close collaboration with the various technical leads, partners, and key stakeholders to identify data, stories, and articles for communications materials. Key activities will be helping to implement a communications strategy, as well as supporting the development of key reports, presentations and events, along with other strategic communications and learning activities for the project.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support the implementation of the Project’s communications and knowledge exchange strategy.
• Assist colleagues in adhering to internal and external communications standards, guidelines, processes and protocols.
• Assemble and draft weekly updates to send to the client on project activities, as well as quarterly reports, annual reports, and work plans.
• Work closely with the M&E and all other technical teams to obtain data and information for stories and articles for communications materials, including reports and success stories.
• Support the communications manager in drafting or editing written materials on the Project
• Stay informed of all significant issues in the Haiti water and sanitation sector and the Project strategies and methods, programs and activities, results and achievements, and on best practices, lessons learned and success stories so that project communication is rich, diverse and well-grounded.
• Ensure compliance with all contract requirements (including branding and marking) that relate to reporting, such as the Weekly Updates, as well Quarterly and Annual Performance Reports.
• Work with technical unit heads to obtain new and/or updated written material for the Project’s websites, newsletters and social media.
• Consistently follow USAID regulations, DAI policies, and quality management best practices.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time in consultation with supervisor of record.


Qualifications réquises

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• BA degree or equivalent in communications, business administration, water and sanitation, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a similar communications role with international development organizations.
• Experience working in international WASH or public health programs strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to organize, summarize, and rewrite technical information for non-expert audiences and familiarity with social media and websites.
• Experience with interviewing beneficiaries and taking photos for success stories.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and use good judgment.
• Proven ability to work effectively in teams in a multi-cultural context.
• Familiarity with current USAID branding guidelines.
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
• Fluency in spoken and written English and French is required. Language proficiency tests will be administered as part of interview process.

SUPERVISION
The Communications Officer reports to the Project Communications Manager or his or her designee.


Conditions de travail

LEVEL OF EFFORT AND LOCATION
This long-term, local position is based in Cap-Haitien, Haiti with possible intermittent travel throughout the program’s target regions, as needed. However, the position’s location could be moved to Port-au-Prince in the future.
